Bridleways is situated on the edge of Vicar Water Country Park and has direct access on foot along the bridle path to the park.

At the centre of the park is Vicar Pond, a fishing lake which during the early 1900s was used for bathing and boating by local people and soldiers from a nearby army camp. Since the 1920s, the landscape has undergone dramatic changes due to the development of Clipstone Colliery. The reclamation of the colliery spoil heaps began in 1976.

The former tranquility and beauty of the area has now been regained and the park offers a wealth of wildlife to discover and a range of interesting and valuable habitats, such as grassland, heathland and woodland.

Recent developments mean that the park now offers a choice of stimulating walks and cycle routes suitable for all abilities. Free guides providing more detailed information on the park's terrain and waymarked trails can be obtained from the Visitor Centre.

Find out more on the Vicar Water Country Park website.

This forest playground of the East Midlands is easily accessible by bridleway or a ten minute drive. There's cycle trails galore, activity trails for the children plus the whole family will love scaling the heights at GoApe.

Sherwood Pines is a great place to go whether you want to let off steam or simply relax in a beautiful woodland. If you're in need of a re-fuel be sure to call at Sherwood Pines Cafes.

Sherwood Pines offers interest and fun for all ages, whether it is a leisurely walk or off-road cycling. The Visitor Centre offers excellent refreshments, cycle hire and sales.

Sherwood Forest Country Park is the home of Robin Hood. It extends over 450 acres and incorporates some truly ancient areas of native woodland. Gentle strolls along the paths leading to the famous Major Oak are available as well as a host of equally impressive ancient trees, most of which are over 500 years old.

Just over seven miles from Bridleways you'll discover Kings Mill Reservoir; the perfect place for adventure, fun on the water or a relaxing  walk.

Originally a medieval mill pond, in 1837 William Bentinck the fourth Duke of Portland increased its size by building a dam to supply water all year round to the mills further down the river. Completed in 1839, the reservoir owes its existence to the river Maun which begins in nearby Kirkby in Ashfield, feeds Kings Mill Reservoir and runs through the centre of Mansfield before eventually joining the river Meden.

Visitors can enjoy the Mill Waters Cafe and Visitor Centre, sailing lake, abundant wildlife and water birds, or search for local history, like England's oldest Railway Viaduct, which was first built in 1817.
